It feels like Hurricane Jose has been circling around in the Atlantic forever! Today it threatened our meet, but decided it would stay far enough away so we could have a nice dry meet. Thanks Jose! Second home meet for the girls, and the first for the boys, and very successful on both fronts, as the girls took home 3rd of 7 and the boys placed 2nd, only missing the win by 8 points. MV defended the home course with individual wins for both teams as well.

After running a very smart, patient race, Emma pulled away over the last mile to win her first high school XC race. Or, as we describe wins now to keep DRen from building his ego up too much, she placed “not last”. Not only did she win, she ran her best t(by 2 seconds) on the home course, solidifying her 5th All-Time Ravine Course spot. Behind her, Not-As-Lo-I-Run continued her comeback tour, placing as MV’s #2 for the first time since meet #1, and ran her best time of 2017. Just a bit back was Noelle, trading places with Lo over the final half mile. Rounding out the scoring 5 was Tristan with a solid race, and Madisyn with another huge PR. Now if she would just start faster! Sky’s the limit!

In the boys race a Trinity runner served as the first ½ mile rabbit. The MV pack of DRen, MRen, and Matt L (needs a nickname) reeled him in over time to lead a decent size pack around the course. Much to Kellen’s chagrin, DRen could be heard talking as he came down into the Ravine…”get serious, DRen, it’s a race!” Little did she or everyone else know that DRen hadn’t actually started racing yet, because when the knees finally started lifting with a half mile to go it was lights out for everyone else as he cruised to his 4th “not last” placing in the last 4 meets. Good thing his time was a bit pokey (just tempo-ing), because it would have been a running-up-the-points kind of win if he was flat out. MRen and Matt L each finished in the top 7, while Mason again held down the 4th spot, but only barely as Flat Brim Ethan almost caught him and the 20-minute barrier at the end. Whoo boy, this is getting exciting! If you’re wondering where our normal 5th place boy was, by the way, let’s just say that due to the non-padded nature of bathroom floors they are not the best place to perform aerial gymnastics. Or so the rumor says.

PS - MV's Top Ten Ravine Course list welcomes Matt L. into 9th place. Congratulations!
