Middle School Championships!
/Merrimack Valley Middle School attended the DII State Meet in Londonderry today, while MVHS feeder school Andover ran at the DIII Championships, held at Coe-Brown in Northwood. Both teams had successful outings, highlighted by award winning performances of Sophia Reynolds of Andover and Sophia Rebenciuc of Merrimack Valley.
Sophia of Andover entered the race as one of the top seeds, courtesy of her 2nd place finish in the Small School Championships a year ago. She ran in that position for the entire race (won by Addie Cox of Northfield) until she was caught by two girls with 80 meters to go down the track. Channelling her inner Kristie Schoffield, she unleashed a scorching kick, flying home to runner-up position and melting the track in the process. Given that Addie graduates to high school next year and Sophia is a 7th-grader...who's the favorite going into 2017?!
Over in Londonderry, Coach Rebenciuc's daughter Sophia was having the race of her life. Only a 6th-grader, she blazed the 2-mile course to finish 10th and earn a plaque. Not too far behind her was another 6th-grader, Samantha Kimball, who showed up to race as she placed an amazing 26th. Highlighting the boys race was Ethan Dodenhoff, who finished 33rd out of the over 100 runners entered. A wonderful note about Ethan, last year in his first year running he finished 157th out of 158 runners at the same race. What an amazing and inspirational improvement!
